preludio-cabernet-sauvignon-veneto-igt
Preludio Cabernet Sauvignon Veneto IGT

The beginning of a journey. Preludio by Masiero Wine is the wine where it all began: the first label conceived and produced by Mattia Masiero himself. A Cabernet that marks the start of his path in the world of wine, born in the vineyards of Mossano, in the heart of the Colli Berici, in the province of Vicenza, an area especially suited to producing red wines with character. Here Masiero's vineyards are set in a hilly landscape where woods, cultivated land and natural areas help create an environment rich in biodiversity. The Colli Berici rise from the Vicenza plain like an island of hills, shaped by a complex geology in which limestone rock plays a fundamental role alongside the red clays and, in some areas, basaltic formations of volcanic origin. Exposures, low rainfall and day-night temperature swings contribute to this area's particular vocation for red grape varieties.

The Cabernet vines are trained using the traditional Veronese pergola system and the grapes are picked by hand at the end of September. Winemaking takes place in the Lumignano cellar, on the eastern slope of the Colli Berici, following a low-intervention approach. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts, using a pied de cuve, while maceration on the skins continues for 12 days with manual punch-downs. Once winemaking is complete, Preludio ages for 12 months in third-fill barriques, a choice that accompanies the evolution of Cabernet without giving wood a dominant role. A further 6 months of ageing in the bottle follow. The wine is finally bottled without filtration, preserving its character and expression as far as possible.

In the glass it shows an intense ruby red. The nose offers scents of small red fruits, accompanied by light spicy nuances. On the palate it is dry, full-bodied and enveloping, supported by silky tannins and a long finish. Structure and balance also give it interesting ageing potential, with a bottle-ageing capacity of 5-6 years. Preludio thus tells the beginning of the Masiero Wine project through a Cabernet from the Colli Berici that combines structure, depth and terroir, leaving it to spontaneous fermentation, to time and to low-intervention work to accompany its expression.

Product Sheet:

Grape variety: Cabernet

Vintage: 2024

Production area: Colli Berici – Vicenza, Veneto.

Altitude: 120-180 m above sea level.

Soil characteristics: Mainly limestone soils, with the presence of red clays.

Training system: Veronese pergola.

Exposure: south

Sensory notes: Intense ruby red.
