Fortezza Durello Extra Brut Metodo Classico
The Product in Brief:
Fortezza by Dama del Rovere is an Extra Brut Durello Classic Method that originates on the volcanic hills of Roncà, in the heart of eastern Lessinia in the province of Verona. Here, amidst the volcanic soils of the Lessini Mountains and significant temperature fluctuations, Durella finds one of its most suitable environments, producing wines of great freshness, verticality, and mineral tension. The vineyard is located in the Brenton area at about 450 meters above sea level and comes from a historic planting from the late 1960s, trained using the Veronese pergola system. Durella, an indigenous grape variety with natural savoriness, acidity, and an extraordinary aptitude for sparkling wine production, allows for the creation of sparkling wine bases of great precision and longevity. At the heart of Dama del Rovere's Classic Method sparkling wines is the patient work of Massimo Prà, who has been building his bases with great precision and a long-term vision for years. Part of the wines is set aside as vin de réserve, stored season after season and then used in blends to provide stylistic continuity, depth, and recognition to the various cuvées.
This work is structured today as a true perpetual reserve: a dynamic reserve in which small quantities of wines from previous vintages are kept alive and progressively integrated into subsequent blends, contributing to building depth, stylistic continuity, and the vineyard's memory over time. A method that has also been refined thanks to significant professional experience in Burgundy, where the culture of blending, precision, and patience is an integral part of the production identity. After manual harvesting between late August and mid-September, vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks; the wine is then bottled and left to age on its lees for at least 36 months. The result is an elegant and vertical Extra Brut Classic Method sparkling wine, capable of best expressing the mineral character of Lessinia's volcanic soils and Durella's great aptitude for sparkling wine production.
